From May 1st 2023, The 2022 National Construction Code (NCC) will require all new Australian houses and apartments to meet a minimum energy efficiency rating of 7 stars under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

This update will support industry and homeowners to design beyond minimum standards and achieve zero energy (and carbon) ready homes, helping us all move to net zero emissions by 2050.

The Australian Building Codes Board has provided a transition period for the industry to adapt to the new 7 star requirement for new houses and apartments, as outlined in

the timeline below.

Belco Group has decided to prepare for the transition to the new energy efficiency requirements by recommending 7 stars in line with the 1st May 2023 date that the NCC recommends and will no longer provide 6 star ratings three months prior to the 1st October 2023 deadline set by the NCC.
